Malik Hassan

Global Head, Strategic Planning

  • Malik is the Group’s Global Head of Strategic Planning, and provides leadership in the development of partnerships by identifying key strategic opportunities, and interfaces with senior stakeholders and the establishment of integrated strategies and policies for the organization.
  • Malik has extensive experience in cross-cultural business and political negotiations. He started his career with the Singapore Foreign Service in 1986 after graduating from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
  • As a Diplomat, he served at the Singapore High Commissions in New Delhi, India from 1988 to 1991 (also covering Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Bangladesh, and Nepal) and London, United Kingdom from 1992 to early 1995. In 1995, he joined Hotel Properties Limited, a company listed on the Stock Exchange of Singapore as Senior Manager (Business Development).
  • His focus was the development of themed restaurants, international joint venture negotiations and business development, property, and hotel acquisitions. In 1997, he managed a family fund that acquired the rights to develop Seattle Coffee Company outlets from the United Kingdom for eight Asian countries. He eventually sold the Asian rights as part of the Starbucks Corporation global purchase of Seattle Coffee Company, a deal widely reported in the UK press.
